When do you use a portable generator? In which situations?

I haven’t used one, but I would assume people who use them want a back up energy source for use such as when the power goes out. I’ve known people who live in rural areas and have hard winters who keep them as they have experience power outages that can last days.
They are probably also important for people who must have power for medical reasons.

Anytime I need 110 and 220 volts AC and there’s no commercial power around. Construction sites where there’s no temporary power feed yet, remote sites where there’s no power at all, whenever it’s simply too far to run an extension cord. I’ve worked at many sites where commercial power wasn’t an option at the time.
