Is is safe to use an ozone generator in a room with a fishtank?
CFrehner asked:
We have some smoke damage (from a fire) to an apartment, and would like to use an ozone generator to remove the smoke smell. Will the use of the ozone generator in a room with a fishtank do any damage to the fish?

From my understanding of ozone generators, they create O3- will this “pollute” the water in the fishtank? Or create an unsafe environment for the fish?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Well, your ozone generator will pump out some nice environmental toxins as well. I don’t know about the fish, but it does damage the atmosphere.

Not only is it ok, but it is extremely beneficial. Your fish tank will have more dissolved oxygen in there

It will pose no problem at all Ozone breaks down rather quickly and even more so in water. Normal usage levels will not create enough to harm the tank in any way.

No it will not harm the fish. O3 is activated oxygen or better known as allotropic oxygen. This is also is created naturally during a thunderstorm.
Many fish hatcheries use O3. It will be fine.
